Easily one of the world's best festivals, Tenerife's week-long Carnaval celebration is a one-of-a-kind bash complete with tropical music, all-night street parties, non-stop entertainment, elaborate costumes, rowdy parades and noise, noise, noise! Tenerife's Carnaval is really all about throwing out your inhibitions, having fun, and becoming something that you aren't in your normal day-to-day life; that's why masks, costumes and cross-dressing play such a huge part in the spectacle.

While Carnaval takes over the whole island, the island hot spots are Santa Cruz, in the south, and Puerto de la Cruz, in the north. The week of mayhem, held just before the beginning of Lent, has been declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest and easily gives Brazil's Carnaval festivities some strong competition!
